Case Study : Garden Court and Frost Hole Close

To upgrade and replace new LED both externally and internally for Fareham Borough Council.

The Scope of Works

COMSERV_case_studies_Garden_Court_Frost_Hole_Close Fareham Borough Council required a competent contractor who could deliver this health and safety critical project on time and within budget. The works required Comserv to:

  • Remove the existing Asbestos Insulating Board (AIB) soffits and textured coatings;
  • Replacement of insulating boards with proprietary fire-resisting board system;
  • Undertake building works including plaster boarding and ceiling alterations;
  • Replacement of existing external bulkhead luminaires;
  • Rewiring and replacement of emergency lighting.

Both Garden Court and Frost Hole Close are self-contained sheltered housing flats with on-site communal facilities including lounge, laundry rooms and gardens.

The Project

Due to the sheltered housing being occupied throughout the works it was important that our team worked closely with the residents throughout this project. Our Site Supervisor ensured that they were fully informed of the works taking place and when communal areas were required to be closed for a short space of time.

The works included working alongside a specialist asbestos contractor to remove the asbestos containing materials for the first phase of this project. Our project team ensured that they completed the works within the strict health and safety guidelines we imposed along with working to the agreed programme.

The second phase of this project was completed by our Electrians which involved removing and replacing emergency lighting throughout the two sites as well as any decorations that were required to be undertaken as a result.

The Results

We worked in close partnership with the Client providing guidance on how the works would be carried out in order for them to be more aesthetically pleasing. For example, we suggested that the lighting should be installed on the high level walls rather than the ceilings due to the extra building works that would have to be carried out along with a number of health and safety aspects.
